With the first round in the books, see who survived and is moving on to the second round to the seeded battlers.

Thanks to Ryan for making the thread.

I thought the first round, overall, was pretty solid.

Uno caught a body, ZM wasn't even spitting good bars for having "known" everything in advance. Uno switched up his style against Storm and surprised a lot of people. Same thing with the ZM battle. If he stays this unpredictable and clever, Twist should have his hands full. I do think that as long as Twist preps and comes with some good material/fresh angles/jokes, he'll win. Unless Uno comes with three rounds of insanity.

EdWords caught a body. As long as Ed doesn't choke, he's great. He and Chedda will be a great matchup. I think it'll be one of the more "even-ish" second round battles. As far as style goes, anyway. Chedda wasn't too great against Bowers. The Fredo battle was good, but it was a bit ruined by the situation. Should be a solid battle.

Fingaz/Sun was really good. It really could've gone either way and the decision would've been solid. Both did a great job. I hadn't seen any of Sun before, but he should be getting some solid competition. Maybe head on down to the FC division. Fingaz vs Shocks is gonna be weird. Big style clash there, and it'll be happening out West. I wonder if Shocks bars are gonna get love from the Calgary crowd. If Fingaz preps right, he might be able to pull the W off.

Dose/Bulletz was great. Probably the best match-up of the first round. Bulletz murdered the second and Dose murdered the third. The first round was really close, but I think Bulletz did rightfully edge it out. A Dose-Sun Tzu match-up could make a solid battle. Bulletz v Charron will be another weird style clash. I think Charron is at a disadvantage here, though. If Charron takes the approaches he did against Fork or Storm and just make racist jokes for three rounds, he's gonna get crushed. His bars aren't close to Bulletz, but his performance/crowd control might be a big problem.

Crakk v Casper was eh. People need to stop gassing up Crakk's bars, because a lot of them were just wack as fuck. If you wanna do the SONS "wordplay," go for it, but don't be fucking lame about it (although that's pretty difficult). I can't wait to see Arcane rip his head off.

Aspire vs New'L was good. Aspire catches a lot of shit, but he isn't THAT bad. His style does get annoying, (and New'L fucking destroyed that impression, that shit was hilarious). New'L did do a poor job of copying Hollohan's multi scheme. A lot of Aspire's punches/angles just never landed for me. The Big L stuff was good, I guess, but it wasn't too effective. I haven't heard any of New'L's music, but I doubt he's going to the same style as Big L, so it was basically a really stretched name flip. New'L is slowly becoming my darkhorse favorite, and he seems a bit difficult to write for. Caustic is really hit and miss. If the Caustic from the Q battle shows up, it should be an easy win, but New'L has an opportunity to really turn some heads.

Step/Bill was really entertaining. There is just something about Step that rubs me the wrong way. I really hate battlers who are like "all you do is jokes for the stupid crowd! Hey, crowd, here's a joke!" and then the crowd reacts to the joke and the battler act like everyone around them is a total idiot. I get that you want to write and spit "bars!" and we all get it that you can, but stop acting like your better than the fans because they don't get/react to your raps. Bill was having a great time throughout the battle. He was entertaining. Him having fun made it fun to watch. I have to admit that his second round got me a bit confused. When someone wants to be overly serious (Step) having the other guy be a total goofball (for me) works in favor of the goofball. Don't get me wrong, I think Step won the first two rounds, but Bill is entertaining. Step vs Tricky will be good, pretty similar to Step/Bill as far as style match-up. High energy rapping/fun vs "bars!"

I didn't watch Fork vs McKnight because I can't really stand either of them. Daley, baring a horrific choke, should comfortably make it to the third round.

Now that were at the "big name" stage of the tourney, it should get really interesting. I said in another threat that it seemed like the staff set everyone in the first round up to get bodied by the seeded cats. After seeing the first round, I think there are a few battles that could go either way, but mostly due to the underdog effect. Regardless, I'm excited to see how this shit plays out. I think the battles can only get better from here on out.

Also, at the Toronto battles, the crowd always seems way less into everything when the lights are down. Anyone else get that vibe? The whole Octane has seemed really dead in most of the battles. The lights were down for BO2 (I'm pretty sure) and the crowd wasn't too poppin with those battles either.

Casper got robbed, even the lines people were quoting for Crackk as justification were bad. Judge Casper for his bars, not his voice. It would help if Casper stopped yelling since his voice cracks, but to lose a battle because of that is kind of stupid. Not saying Crackk is terrible or anything, but in no way did he win.

Dose surprised me against Bulletz, both of them did actually. Best match up for the first round. I'm surprised Dose wasn't seeded though, I mean sure we all think he lost to 24/7, but he is undefeated or was at the time rather. Whatever though, it lead to a good match up and honestly he wasn't going to win this tournament anyway so all in all I guess it doesn't matter.

Shits been looking good so far, can't wait for round 2 for when the navy matches start coming in, I'm anxious to see who's going to take the prix this year.

Carnage GP battles dont disappoint. Trust me. 3 of the 4 Mayhem battles Im really excited for lol Chedda-Ed... not so much

The Carnage battles were dope...I will say that there were a couple surprises for me personally. Looking forward to Mayhem, but every GP match there should be pretty one-sided...Chedda will style on Edwords, Caustic will humiliate NewL, Daley will take McNight handily and Shocks should take a clear win against Fingaz (mind you, I really can't stand Fingaz...dude is ridiculously overhyped and lost clearly to Sun Tzu imo).

What makes you think Chedda will 'style' on Words? He got beat by Fredo and barley had anything good against Bowers. He is lucky that there wasn't many top guys from the West who got put in GP or he would have been beat in the first.

Agree to disagree sir...Chedda bodied Fredo imo (though the circumstances of that battle were kind of weird and detracted from both of their performances) and Bowers was a close battle where HB got him on performance. Chedda and Edwords have essentially the same style that Chedda pulls off a lot more cleanly. I just don't see any way Ed's fucking with it honestly.

Bowers got him PERIOD. Bowers took every round where Chedda only had a couple good things.
